Last year some time I had the opportunity to do a sixteenth birthday cake for Sarah, this year it was her sister Kaitlyn’s turn 16 and have her own sweetheart cake. This cake was butter vanilla with choclate mousse filling covered in swiss meringue buttercream and fondant.
I get a lot of hits from people searching for butter cream cakes. Which makes me feel a little guilty, since this blog features mostly fondant cakes and its name is buttercream, so thought I would post something for those seeking cakes in their more natural state.
When my cousin asked me to do a Fancy Nancy cake, I said sure, I’d heard of Fancy Nancy. Then I realized that though I had heard of her, I didn’t know anything about her, one of the downside of having all boys. My eldest son and I were invited to the party, and although I did not dress up, Owen had a blast with a fake mustache, crown and most importantly a sword. The little girls got decked out in princess dress, feather boas, and all kinds of other finery. It was an adorable party! This cake was kid friendly vanilla cake with raspberry jam and traditional butter cream.
Aren’t these colors just summer itself? This wedding was in a gorgeous outdoor venue, with colorful lanterns in the trees overhead. I should have taken pictures. The cakes were chocolate with raspberry preserves, and butter vanilla with lemon curd, all covered in swiss meringue buttercream and homemade fondant.
My friend Tricia has to be one of the cutest pregnant women I’ve ever seen, you know the type, petite with a basketball belly. She is having a girl, after a couple of sweet but rambunctious boys, which, of course meant she needed a shower. The only thing there cuter than Tricia was the piles of pink and frilly baby clothes. The cake was quilted, buttoned, and beribboned, and because it was going to be served to a room full of women, it was also chocolate with raspberry preserves and swiss meringue butter cream.
