This first cake was for a sweet new mom at church who had recently had twin girls. Those babies are so adorable! Double the cute for sure. I was inspired by all the frilly and sweet dresses that show up at baby showers. The cake was butter vanilla with lemon curd and traditional butter cream.
This second cake was for a dear friend who was expecting her first little one. She and her husband were planning on a Noah’s ark themed nursery so we made a cake to match. Making all the little animals was so much fun. My boys were enthralled as well, if it was up to them I would have made a whole zoo full of animals.
Here they are in their pre-assembled state. I think the turtles were my favorite.
I don’t usually post too much personal stuff on this blog but I thought that maybe I should give a few reasons for my nearly year long absence. For a while last fall, life was wild, we went on a trip and came back to a flooded home, my sweet grandma passed away and my mother came to stay for over a month while she and her siblings settled my grandmas estate. But by far the biggest change in our life was that we found out we were excitedly expecting our fourth child. I am not the happiest baby haver, I get pretty sick and had gestational diabetes, so while there were a few cakes in that time, none of them were posted. Hopefully I’ll get to that soon! In the meantime, maybe you’ll forgive me if I post something way cuter than any cake I’ve ever made.
My four sons!
Brand new little guy. He had one serious rash, which thankfully went away after about a week or two.
At about six weeks.
My friend Tricia has to be one of the cutest pregnant women I’ve ever seen, you know the type, petite with a basketball belly. She is having a girl, after a couple of sweet but rambunctious boys, which, of course meant she needed a shower. The only thing there cuter than Tricia was the piles of pink and frilly baby clothes. The cake was quilted, buttoned, and beribboned, and because it was going to be served to a room full of women, it was also chocolate with raspberry preserves and swiss meringue butter cream.
Baby showers are fun. This one was done a couple years ago but I just found the pictures. It was for a shower at the law firm Dave used to work for. The cake is covered in pink fondant, with stars and moon also out of fondant. This is when having an array of cookie cutters comes in handy. The baby was shaped by hand and her little blankie was cut with a scalloped pastry cutter.
