It is always a little disconcerting when someone you remember as teeny tiny suddenly is old enough to get married.  My cousin Crystal is all grown up now, and a married woman as of today.   She married a nice guy by the name of Jake Allen.    Their cake had a layer for him, chocolate with cream cheese filling, and one for her, vanilla with fresh raspberries  and strawberries, both covered in swiss meringue butter cream and homemade fondant.

035 Congratulations Mrs. and Mr. Allen!

My friend Mindy is having a birthday!   I wanted something fun and fabulous like her, she really is a super great woman.   The cake is  a lightly lemon butter cake with lemon curd and swiss merigue buttercream, all covered in marshmallow fondant.   Happy, happy birthday!

Aren’t Gerbera daisies such a  great summer wedding flower?  It’s a fresh and pretty look I think.   I had the good luck to get in touch with a friend that I went to high school with just in time to get invited to her reception.  She made a beautiful bride!   Best wishes to Monica and Gavin!

Some cakes are just more of a pleasure to make than others.  This was one of them.   First of all the couple was really sweet and easy to work with,  and I loved the design they chose.  It was from Martha Stewart Wedding Cakes,  altered to suit their colors.   The cake in the book had a tea cup with olive branches on top, which, ahem, wasn’t her cup o’ tea.  So we discussed a couple of options,  one of them being the peonies growing in my front yard.  I watch the flowers for weeks waiting for them to bloom.  They bloomed the very day of the wedding,  perfect white peonies.  The cake was chocolate with raspberry and chocolate fudge fillings, iced with vanilla butter cream and covered in fondant.  Congratulations to Eric and Liz!
