It is always a little disconcerting when someone you remember as teeny tiny suddenly is old enough to get married.  My cousin Crystal is all grown up now, and a married woman as of today.   She married a nice guy by the name of Jake Allen.    Their cake had a layer for him, chocolate with cream cheese filling, and one for her, vanilla with fresh raspberries  and strawberries, both covered in swiss meringue butter cream and homemade fondant.

Congratulations Mrs. and Mr. Allen!

 My friend commissioned this cake for her husband, who is a big Lions fan.   It is carrot cake with swiss meringue cream cheese buttercream, covered in homemade fondant.   

It is hard to tell in this picture,  but the entire surface of this cake has a silver shimmer.  The bottom layer was devil’s food with fresh raspberries and strawberries.  The middle tier is vanilla butter cake with the same fresh berries.

The mother of the bride was so sweet and happy for her daughter,  that she, along with the cake, was just tickled pink.  The feminine confection was a Meyer lemon cake filled with lemon curd and Swiss meringue butter cream all wrapped up with white, light, and dark pink fondant. 

my friend Shawnelle.  She came up with the coolest party theme- Mad Science Experiments!  Seriously what nine year old boy wouldn’t want to blow up mentos and diet coke at his birthday party.   She commissioned this lab flask to go with the carbonated ice cream they were going to make.   It was hollowed out on top so that a cup with dry ice could make the cake “smoke”.  Hopefully,  I can get a picture  of it in action later, but for now, here is the non-smoking version.

Can you tell this was a fun party?  I mean, look at all that ice cream!   It was fun.  My nephew turned two and is very much into CARS right now, hence the Radiator Springs style Lightning McQueen (if you understood that you must have a little boy or two in your life).  The flavors were child friendly too, vanilla cake with milk chocolate ganache.

This is, I believe, my first retirement cake.  The lucky fellow worked at Delta Airlines, so it was only natural to make an airplane for him.  A yummy airplane too, vanilla cake with raspberry preserves and swiss meringue butter cream wrapped up in fondant.  Happy retirement!
